spring forward, fall back

Although it still awaits buttons, after a four month knitting hiatus and then picked up again at the end of August, I am FINALLY finished my Forecast.  I'm pretty pleased with it.  I did a circular yoke on this one and like the way it sits on my shoulders with no increases along a raglan "seam".  It really lets those beautiful cables and bobbles stand out in all their tactile lusciousness.  Not sure when I'm going to be able to make it to the fabric store for buttons but I will post more pictures of me wearing it when I get them sewn on.  Hmmmm...what to make next? I love these Latvian mittens...

the impossible project

I'm very excited about the prospect of being able to use my Polaroid camera again.  The Impossible Project is aiming to have the Polaroid factory up and running, producing film again by next year.  I used to bike past this factory everyday when I lived in the Netherlands - it's spare industrial facade staring me down from every angle as I leisurely pedaled by. 

Now I just have to figure out which box my camera is packed away in before next year...

green tea & mooncakes

 

We walked to the Moon Festival at our local park last night.  The weather could not have been more beautiful, the lanterns more magical, the mooncakes more delicious and the moon more full! An enchanting tradition we hope to behold in the coming years.

no-knead take ii

I'm starting to convince myself that I am somewhat allergic to wheat. Not sure why, but I just have this feeling of "unwellness" whenever I eat too much bread, muffins, croissants, all that carb-y goodness.  One of these days I'm going to get myself to a naturopath to see what's what.  I've never been but I think it's time.  In the meantime, I tried my own 50/50 version of Mark Bittman's No Knead Bread recipe (omitted lemon & rosemary) with half organic unbleached flour and half organic spelt flour.  It turned out pretty good! Of course, time was on my side here; I think I let it sit for a full 24 hours and then another 2.5 hours before baking.  Needless to say, it didn't last long in the breadbox. Next batch I will try 100% spelt.

So, I think I'm going to be back on a regular basis now.  It's been a sunny, staycation-y kind of summer but September's early sunsets and dewy nights have me thinking about the cooler weather swiftly moving in and inside activities (ie. blogging time) calling once again. 

We found and moved into a cute little house at the beginning of June. It's taking forever to unpack every box but I'm slowly managing.  I figure if everything is unpacked and organized by Christmas, I'll be happy with that.  A place for everything and everything in it's place.

One of the best things about living in a house with a yard now is hanging up the wash to dry.  We don't have a fancy clothesline that attaches to a pole at the back of the yard or anything.  It's just a couple lengths of yellow nylon rope fastened onto a pipe at the house and fence post at the back. The previous tenants set it up and it works great!  I try to sort and hang similar items beside one another - a little too obsessively sometimes but that's the way I like it.  Whites and onesies are my favourites.
